Olivia Hilton with her award winning watercolor

Valley High School Art was well represented at yesterday's University of Rio Grande High School Art Show.  Junior Olivia Hilton was awarded 2nd place overall for her watercolor painting.  This is the 11th  year that Rio has hosted the competition, which is open to high school students from Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky.  The show is juried, which means that out of 151 submissions from 11 different schools- only a set number of pieces of artwork (50 this year) are selected to be displayed at all before any awards are given.  Valley Junior Emilie Johnson had a pencil drawing selected for inclusion in the 50 pieces on display during this year's show.  Having artwork selected for display at all is quite an achievement.  Then there are 10 honorable mention awards given, along with 3rd, 2nd, and 1st Place overall awards, and one Best of Show for a total of 14 possible awards.  If you see Olivia or Emilie, be sure and congratulate them both on a job well done!
